CHRONIC BRONCHITIS

An inflammation or obstruction of the bronchi. Symptoms include incessant coughing due to irritation, mucus build-up, fever, back and chest pain, sore throat, and difficulty breathing. Cause can often be related to allergies.

Description
Bronchitis is a Respiratory System Ailment involving the Inflammation of the Mucous Membranes of the Bronchial Tubes caused by infection by Viruses or Detrimental Bacteria (and also, occasionally by other Antigens) and usually accompanied by excessive Mucous production, Coughing, Pain (in the chest and/or back) and shortness of Breath.

Prevalence
Acute Bronchitis is the ninth most common outpatient illness observed by physicians.
Chronic Bronchitis affects approximately 5% of the population of Western nations and is the seventh highest ranking chronic ailment in Western nations. It occurs more frequently in women than in men and occurs more frequently in persons over the age of 45.

These Substances Alleviate or Prevent Bronchitis

Alkaloids
Berberine alleviates some cases of Bronchitis (by suppressing the Chlamydia pneumoniae bacteria that is a common cause of acute Bronchitis).

Amino Acids
Cysteine (especially the N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) form of Cysteine) alleviates Bronchitis (by liquefying the mucous that contributes to Bronchitis) and by suppressing the Detrimental Bacteria that reside in the Bronchial Tract of Bronchitis patients:

- Alliin (a derivative of Cysteine) alleviates Bronchitis by acting as an expectorant.

Cystine promotes healing in the Respiratory Tract and is therefore useful in the treatment of Bronchitis.

Electromagnetic Radiation
Negative Atmospheric Ions counteract the allergic effects of Positive Atmospheric Ions on the tissues of the Respiratory System and may thereby alleviate the symptoms of Bronchitis where the underlying cause of Bronchitis is excessive exposure to Positive Atmospheric Ions.

Enzymes
Bromelain significantly reduces the quantity of Mucous produced by (chronic) Bronchitis patients.

Lipids
Superunsaturated Fatty Acids help to prevent (chronic) Bronchitis.

- Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) helps to prevent Bronchitis.
- Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) helps to prevent Bronchitis.

Pharmaceutical Drugs
Amoxicillin is used to treat some cases of Bronchitis (where the cause of Bronchitis is one of the Detrimental Bacteria against which Amoxicillin is effective).

Ampicillin is used to treat some cases of Bronchitis (where the cause of Bronchitis is one of the Detrimental Bacteria against which Ampicillin is effective).

Azithromycin is commonly prescribed for the treatment of (bacterial) Bronchitis (where the cause of Bronchitis is Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae or Moraxella catarrhalis infection).

Erythromycin (10 - 14 day course) is commonly prescribed for the treatment of (acute) Bronchitis (where the underlying cause of acute Bronchitis is one of the Detrimental Bacteria that are inhibited by Erythromycin).

Roxithromycin is a powerful Antibiotic that is sometimes utilized against (bacterial) Bronchitis.

Tetracyclines alleviate some cases of Bronchitis (where Bronchitis is caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection). Drugs from the Tetracyclines class include:

- Demeclocycline
- Doxycycline
- Erythromycin (10 - 14 day course)
- Methacycline
- Minocycline
- Oxytetracycline
- Tetracycline

Smart Drugs
Biostim prevents Bronchitis (both forms of Bronchitis) and prevents Bronchitis from becoming fatal.

Sulphuric Compounds
Allyl Isothiocyanate alleviates Bronchitis (by functioning as an expectorant).

Vitamins
Vitamin A (7,500 IU per day) stimulates the Mucous Membranes of the Respiratory Tract to resist the infections that cause Bronchitis.

Vitamin C alleviates Bronchitis (by increasing resistance to Bacteria and Viruses) and also helps to prevent Bronchitis.

Foods/Herbs that Alleviate Bronchitis

Algae
Irish Moss alleviates Bronchitis (it soothes the inflamed Mucous Membranes that occur in Bronchitis).

Fungi
Caterpillar Fungus alleviates the symptoms of (chronic) Bronchitis.

Herbs
Aniseed (tea) loosens congestion and Mucous in persons afflicted with Bronchitis.

Black Cohosh is a traditional American natives’ remedy for Bronchitis (this has not been scientifically validated yet).
Blood Root alleviates the symptoms of Bronchitis (it relaxes the Bronchial Muscles).

Borage reputedly alleviates the symptoms of Bronchitis (according to folklore).

Chillis help to prevent the onset of (chronic) Bronchitis and assist the management of existing Bronchitis. research
Codonopsis alleviates the symptoms of (chronic) Bronchitis.

Dong Quai is an effective treatment for (chronic) Bronchitis.

Elecampane is used (traditionally) to treat Bronchitis.

Essiac (a mixture of Herbs - primarily Sheep Sorrel) is claimed to eliminate the Coughing associated with Bronchitis (according to anecdotal reports).

Goldenseal alleviates some cases of Bronchitis (due to the Berberine and Hydrastine content of Goldenseal suppressing the Chlamydia pneumoniae bacteria that is a common cause of acute Bronchitis).

Greater Celandine is an effective treatment for Bronchitis.
Korean Ginseng (used in conjunction with standard Pharmaceutical Antibiotics) accelerates the healing of (bacterial) Bronchitis.

Licorice (root) alleviates the symptoms of Bronchitis.

Mullein alleviates the symptoms of Bronchitis (according to folklore).

Hot Mustard Baths relieve the congestion associated with Bronchitis and Mustard plaster (applied topically) to the chest also alleviates the congestion associated with Bronchitis.

Neem (leaf extract consumed orally) alleviates Bronchitis.
Pleurisy Root alleviates the symptoms of Bronchitis (due to the expectorant properties of Pleurisy Root).

Thyme loosens the congestion and excessive accumulations of Mucous associated with Bronchitis.

Wild Cherry Bark is useful in the treatment of Bronchitis (due to its ability to suppress Coughing).

Mushrooms
Reishi Mushrooms inhibit the Inflammation associated with Bronchitis.

Oils (dietary Oils)
Fish Oils help to prevent Bronchitis (due to their high content of Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) and Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA)).

Oils (medicinal Oils)
Oregano Oil (consumed orally) alleviates Bronchitis.

Pine Tree Oil (vapors inhaled) alleviates Bronchitis.

Tea Tree Oil (vapors inhaled) alleviates Bronchitis.

Seeds
Mustard Seeds alleviate Bronchitis (due to their Allyl Isothiocyanate content).

Plantain Seeds alleviate the symptoms (Pain, Coughs, Wheezing and Inflammation) associated with Bronchitis.

Vegetables
Garlic helps to prevent (chronic) Bronchitis and alleviates existing Bronchitis (due to the expectorant properties of its Alliin component).

Substances that Cause Bronchitis

Environmental Toxins
Excessive exposure to Air Pollution can cause (chronic) Bronchitis.

Microorganisms
Chlamydia pneumoniae is a common cause of (acute) Bronchitis.

Haemophilus influenzae infection is a common cause of (bacterial) Bronchitis.

Moraxella catarrhalis can cause Bronchitis.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a common cause of (acute) Bronchitis.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa can cause Bronchitis (especially in Cystic Fibrosis patients).

Streptococcus pneumoniae infection is a common cause of (bacterial) Bronchitis.

Recreational Drugs
Amyl Nitrate (inhaled) can cause Bronchitis.

Tobacco smoking causes (chronic) Bronchitis - Tobacco smoking is by far the most common underlying cause of (chronic) Bronchitis.

Bronchitis can Cause these Ailments
Respiratory System

Bronchitis causes frequent, persistent Coughs.

Chronic Bronchitis can precede or accompany Emphysema.

Chronic Bronchitis is the most common underlying cause of Hemoptysis (spitting of Blood derived from the Lungs or Bronchial Tubes as a result of Bleeding in the Lungs or Bronchial Tubes).

Bronchitis can cause Pleurisy.

Acute Bronchitis sometimes (rarely) progresses on to Pneumonia.

Ailments that can Cause Bronchitis

Immune System
Allergies are the underlying cause of some cases of (chronic) Bronchitis.

Nutrient Metabolism Ailments
Bronchitis is a symptom of Cystic Fibrosis.

Bronchitis Patients Must Use Caution Before Consuming these Substances

Pharmaceutical Drugs
Bronchitis patients should use caution before using Propranolol (due to Propranolol blocking the Beta-Receptor sites for Adrenaline in the Bronchial smooth Muscle).

Forms of Bronchitis
Acute Bronchitis is caused by Detrimental Bacteria, Viruses (usually Rhinoviruses or Adenoviruses) or other Antigens. It is regarded as a type of Lower Respiratory Tract Infection:

- Bacterial Bronchitis is caused by Detrimental Bacteria.

- Acute Bronchitis usually involves acute Cough with excessive Mucous production with or without Fever. It does not involve the distal Lung parenchyma (Alveoli or Respiratory Bronchioles).

- Acute Bronchitis often follows or is associated with (acute) Sinusitis, (acute) Pharyngitis, the Common Cold or Influenza.

- Most cases of acute Bronchitis are self-limiting, with resolution occurring within several weeks. Rarely, acute Bronchitis progresses on to Pneumonia.

Chronic Bronchitis is a potentially fatal form of Bronchitis - in France, Chronic Bronchitis kills 20,000 persons per annum:

- Chronic Bronchitis is defined as persistent Cough and excessive Mucous production for at least three months each year for at least two consecutive years.

- Chronic Bronchitis is the most common underlying cause of Hemoptysis (spitting of Blood derived from the Lungs or Bronchial Tubes as a result of Bleeding in the Lungs or Bronchial Tubes).

- If the bronchial tubes have been inflamed over a long period of time, excessive Mucous is produced constantly, the Mucous Membranes of the Bronchial Tubes become thickened, an irritating Cough develops, air flow may be hindered, and the Lungs are endangered. The Bronchial Tubes then become a good breeding place for Detrimental Microorganisms.

- Chronic Bronchitis does not strike suddenly. After a bout of the Common Cold appears to have resolved, an individual may continue to Cough and produce large amounts of Mucous for several weeks. As people who get chronic Bronchitis are often tobacco smokers, the Cough is usually dismissed as "smoker's cough." With the passage of time, Common Colds become more damaging. Coughing and bringing up Mucous last longer after each cold. Without realizing it, the individual begins to accept this Cough and Mucous production as a normal. Soon they are present all the time, before Colds, during Colds, and after Colds. Generally, the cough is worse in the morning and in damp, cold weather. An ounce or more of yellow Mucous may be coughed up each day.

- Unlike acute Bronchitis, chronic Bronchitis is NOT caused by Bacterial or Viral Infection. Tobacco Smoking is the most common underlying cause of chronic Bronchitis.
- Chronic Bronchitis is regarded as a form of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
